C64.emu is a Commodore 8-bit computer emulator based on VICE

Initial Setup:

  • Download the C64.emu.zip file below (last updated for version 1.5.58+ with VICE 3.6.1 files)

  • Select the file via Options -> File Paths -> VICE System Files -> Select Archive File

C64-specific Options:

  • Main menu

    • Open Content (No Autostart): Runs media without performing the autostart process, also used for opening *-x000.prg ROM pairs in VIC-20 mode

  • System Actions

    • Apply Quick C64 Settings: Select between 4 common video and disk drive emulation settings with a single command

    • Joystick Mode: Control swapping ports used for joystick input, or have joystick commands map to the keyboard cursor

    • Machine Options

      • Model: Select between various NTSC/PAL models to emulate (resets emulation when set)

      • True Drive Emulation (TDE): More accurate but slower disk access

      • Autostart Handles TDE: Enables TDE automatically during the initial disk load if it's not already

      • Autostart Fast-forward: Fast-forwards emulation during initial disk load

  • Options -> Video

    • Crop Normal Borders: When Border Mode is set to "Normal", try to crop as much of the border area as possible with affecting the aspect ratio, doesn't affect video timings

    • Borders: Set the C64 borders emulation (resets emulation when set)

  • Options -> Audio

    • SID Engine: Set SID chip emulation mode, FastSID or ReSID (sounds better and uses more CPU power)

    • ReSID Sampling: Controls sound quality for ReSID, interpolation and resampling modes will incur additional CPU usage
